Asmara Dreaming

Posted on 2010/04/28

Italian born and Paris based photographer, Marco Barbon has made the book that I dreamt about after first visiting Asmara. The first decent publication that I have seen and own titled Asmara: Africa’s Secret Modernist City takes a historical/architectural documentation approach. Barbon’s book Asmara Dream on the other hand uses dream like imagery focusing on the suspension of time and history. A metaphor that rings all too true for a nation unable to resolve it’s border dispute with neighbor Ethiopia, a dispute that continues 10+ years.

The Asmara Dreams is published by Paris-based Filigranes Editions.
